Day 30: Bright Sunlight

I picked an outstanding day to try to photograph in direct sunlight. It was sunny and hot, and my kids spent several hours swimming with friends. They were having so much fun playing in the "rain" (the hose) that no one paid any attention to my camera. Candid photos of fun are among my favorites. Here are a couple photos of my friend's girls.

For these photos, I followed the advice of my photographer neighbor. I shot so that the sun was behind my subject and metered in between the subject and the background. In Lightroom, I lightened the Blacks to remove the underexposed shadow from the kids' faces.

That concludes my 30-Day Photography Challenge. Thank you to all of you who took the time to read, comment, or engage in any part of the challenge with me. I learned some new things and took some special photos. Not every day produced a winner, but overall I feel the challenge was a success. If nothing else, I am pleased to have set a goal and completed it. Thank you, readers, for holding me accountable by being there.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

  1. I love candid shots of kids fun too! I got some good ones on the beach this week which I'll share later. I need to learn more about light metering and post processing though. These are terrific!

  2. Congratulations on finishing the 30-day challenge! You did an excellent job, in my non-professional opinion.
